What to Eat After All-on-X Surgery

Soft Food Recommendations for a Smooth Recovery

After All-on-X surgery, eating the right foods can help you stay comfortable, heal faster, and maintain your strength.

You must maintain an extremely soft food diet for the six months of healing. Eating hard or crunchy foods during healing may cause failure of implants and will also damage your temporary teeth so you will not be able to wear them.

💧 Stay Hydrated

It’s important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

  • Choose cool or lukewarm liquids for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid hot drinks (they can increase bleeding).
  • Do not use a straw for the first 72 hours—this can dislodge the healing clot.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages while on pain medication

🍽️ Soft Foods That Are Easy to Eat

Keeping up with your nutrition is important for your healing. Remember to eat well, while sticking with soft, smooth foods that require little or no chewing. Here are some ideas for foods to eat while you are healing:

  • Applesauce
  • Protein shakes (use a spoon, not a straw)
  • Soft noodles or pasta (overcooked)
  • Refried beans
  • Pancakes
  • Soups (broth or cream soups – no chunky soups, chowders, or soups that require chewing)
  • Shredded or ground beef, turkey, or chicken (no meat that requires chewing)
  • Fish (no bones)
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Yogurt (without fruit chunks)
  • Cottage cheese
  • Mashed fruits including avocados (no dried fruit)
  • Extremely soft or mashed vegetables
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Soft rice
  • Cream of Wheat or oatmeal (soft, not hot)
  • Smooth ice cream
  • Fruit ice
  • Pudding

🚫What To Avoid

  • GUM
  • Nuts
  • Candy
  • ANY CRUNCHY FOODS
  • Crunchy lettuce
  • Dried fruit
  • Fries or hash browns
  • Breads of any kind

Eating hard or crunchy foods may cause failure of implants, and will damage your temporary teeth and so you will not be able to wear them.

🥗 As You Heal

  • Add in more soft, nutritious foods as you’re able to chew comfortably.
  • Continue sticking with a soft-food only diet for 6 months, avoiding crunchy, hard foods.
  • Remember: you’ll heal faster and feel stronger if you keep up good nutrition and hydration.
