Managing Post-operative Pain
To best control your pain:
Eat a healthy, substantial snack (eggs, yogurt, smoothie, etc.)
- Take 1000 mg of Tylenol
- Wait one hour
- Repeat snack intake
- Take 800 mg of Ibuprofen
- Repeat the protocol every 6-8 hours as needed
- Do not exceed 3000 mg of Tylenol and 3200 mg of Ibuprofen per day.
- There are 325mg of Tylenol in each tab of Norco, so be sure to add that to your Tylenol total for the day if it is taken.
- Make sure to wait 1-2 hours between the Tylenol and Ibuprofen.
- Any prescribed Oxycodone or hydrocodone is to be used only for pain that is not relieved by the Tylenol and Ibuprofen. (We recommend using Oxycodone or hydrocodone in ½ pill increments.)
Do not take these medications if you are allergic to them or have been told by a doctor or pharmacist that you should avoid acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen, or anti-inflammatory medications. If you have medical conditions, take blood thinners, or are unsure if these medicines are safe for you, please contact our office or your medical provider prior to using this protocol.
